What is a csa?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Through your support, we at Cedar Shake Farm are able to provide locally-grown produce and flowers using sustainable and organic practices. We are not certified organic*, but we strive to provide quality products while following organic practices. Thank you for your support. We serve customers in the Winterset, Cumming and West Des Moines areas.

Flower & Vegetable CSA box pickup locations:

  1. Every Saturday at the Madison County Farmer’s Market, between the hours of 8 and noon. If your flower CSA starts Before or after the farmer’s market begins & ends, your pickup will be on the at the Madison County Courthouse from 10 to 11am.

  2. Trader Joe’s parking lot in West Des Moines on Tuesdays from 530 to 630pm. We’ll try to park in the same location each time. Look for our banner. Please note: We may adjust this time to better suit our customers once we figure out the best time frame that works for everyone.

  3. Monthly Veggie CSA only option - First Saturday of the month at the Ted Lare Garden Center - Farmer’s Market in Cumming, Iowa from 2 to 430 - please note this will be a monthly vegetable CSA pickup spot only. Monthly can choose one of the first two options for pickup as well.

Farm-fresh and hand-selected, you may enjoy a large, eye-catching bouquet weekly or biweekly. Each bouquet is unique: indulging in a melange of traditional, romantic, and whimsical designs to fully capture the idyllic beauty of each season. You also have the satisfaction of knowing your bouquet was grown right here in Madison County, using sustainable and organic practices* to deliver the highest quality. There is limited availability for each CSA so we can ensure the highest quality products while ensuring we are satisfying our customers.

2019 vegetable csa

Following organic practices*, we grow seasonal fruits and vegetables to suit a varied palate. We use crop rotation as well as succession planting to provide a bountiful plethora of produce for your needs. Limited availability so we can provide high quality products and keep our customers satisfied.

You will receive your veggies in a veggie box each week. These boxes are purchased by us and we intend to clean them and use them weekly for our repeat customers.

Please bring the empty box back each week to get next week’s CSA.

Examples of items included in your veggie box are as follows. All produce we grow may not be listed below. Each box will provide approximately enough vegetables for a 3 to 4 person family for one week.

Spring

Microgreens, Basil, Rosemary, Cilantro, Arugula, Asparagus, Broccoli, Garlic, Kale, Radishes, Spinach, Turnips, Swiss Chard & Salad Mixes

Summer

Microgreens, Blueberries, Basil, Rosemary, Cilantro, Squash, Zucchini, Beans, Carrots, Eggplant, Green Peppers, Purple/White Kohlrabi, Okra, Swiss Chard, Tomatoes & Turnips

Fall

Microgreens, Basil, Rosemary, Cilantro, Beets, Cabbage, Garlic, Kale, Onions, Peppers, Potatoes, Shallots, Swiss Chard,  Zucchini, Squash, Pumpkins & Salad Mixes

*We are not certified organic. We only follow the practices of organic farming so as to provide high quality products to our customers. Organic certification is a 3 year process that we plan to begin in the coming years once we are more established.
